Founded in 1982, the Equity Center has evolved to become the largest school finance research and advocacy organization of its kind in the nation.
Our organization was established by a group of 55 school districts as a response to the gross inequities in our state’s school finance system that prevented districts from providing the education opportunities their students deserved.
Today, we are the only organization in Texas that exclusively represents the interests of Texas taxpayers and children in school districts that are chronically under-funded by our school finance system. With an active membership that spans our great state, our membership currently comprises nearly two-thirds of Texas’ public school districts.
For more than thirty years, we have played a vital role in public education and we continue to be a vibrant and responsive organization for the benefit of our members and Texans everywhere.
